The Spiritual Essence of the
Umrah Journey
Umrah is a deeply meaningful act of worship that Muslims can perform throughout the year, symbolizing faith, purity, and spiritual renewal. It brings believers from around the world together in the blessed city of Makkah, strengthening their connection to the timeless traditions of Islam.
This sacred journey is a transformative experience—one that fills the heart with humility, encourages spiritual discipline, and becomes a turning point for many seeking forgiveness and inner peace.
Approach every step with sincerity, gratitude, and a strong sense of purpose. Umrah is more than travel; it is a journey of the heart, an opportunity to respond to Allah’s call and return home feeling uplifted and spiritually refreshed.

Your Umrah Rituals Guide
Step-1Ihram
Wear the prescribed clothing and make the intention (Niyyah) for Umrah, then recite the Talbiyah as you begin your sacred state.
Step-2Tawaf (Circling the Kaaba)
Tawaf is an act of worship where a Muslim circumambulates the Noble House (the Kaaba), drawing closer to Allah through devotion and obedience. It is a symbol of love, submission, and spiritual connection.
Step-by-Step Guide:
-
Enter the Mataf
-
Stand next to the Black Stone, keeping it to your left.
-
-
Begin with Takbir
-
Raise your hand and say “Allahu Akbar” as you align with the Black Stone.
-
-
Start Circumambulation
-
Move in a counterclockwise direction around the Kaaba.
-
-
Pray and Remember Allah
-
Engage in dua, dhikr, or silent prayers during each round.
-
-
Completing Each Round
-
When reaching the starting point aligned with the Black Stone, repeat the gesture of raising your hand and saying “Allahu Akbar” to mark the completion of that round.
-
-
Complete Seven Circuits
-
Continue in the same manner until all seven rounds are completed.
-
Step-3Sa’i Between Safa & Marwah
After completing Tawaf, follow the guidance signs inside the Grand Mosque that direct you to Al-Safa, the starting point of the Sa’i journey.
Step-by-Step Guide:
-
Starting from Al-Safa
-
Stand at the location of Al-Safa. Although the original mount no longer exists, rocks mark the area on the ground floor, and signs indicate its position on the upper floors.
-
-
Walking Towards Al-Marwah
-
Begin walking from Al-Safa towards Al-Marwah.
-
-
Running in the Green Flag Area (for Men)
-
Upon reaching the section marked by the two green flags on the roof of Al-Massa’, men should jog or run briskly until the end of this marked area. Women walk at a normal pace.
-
-
Reaching Al-Marwah
-
Once you reach Al-Marwah, that completes one direction. Turn around and walk back to Al-Safa.
-
-
Completing Seven Circuits
-
Continue this process until you have completed seven laps (three and a half times back and forth).
-
Men jog every time they pass the green flag area during each lap.
-
Step-4Shave Hair or Trim
After completing Tawaf and Sa’i, the Umrah pilgrim performs Halq (shaving) or Taqsir (hair cutting), marking the completion of Umrah. At this point, all restrictions of Ihram are lifted.
For Males:
-
Shave the entire head (Halq) or trim the hair (Taqsir).
For Females:
-
Cut a small portion, about 1–2 cm from the ends of the hair.
Additional Notes:
-
The pilgrim may delay hair cutting until returning to their residence.
-
Hair can be cut personally or by someone assisting the pilgrim.
-
Until hair is cut or shaved, the prohibitions of Ihram remain in effect.
